Bengaluru: A 37-year-old man from Kerala has been arrested by the Soladevanahalli Police for allegedly raping a college student at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in North Bengaluru. The accused has been identified as Ashraf, who also runs the PG facility where the crime is reported to have taken place.
According to police sources, the college student had moved into the PG just a week ago. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, August 1, when Ashraf allegedly sexually assaulted the student and threatened her not to file a complaint.
Following the student’s complaint, Soladevanahalli police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS and swiftly took Ashraf into custody. The survivor has been sent for medical examination, and further investigation is currently underway.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns about women’s safety in PG accommodations, especially in and around educational hubs in the city. Police have assured strict action and stated that they are examining compliance of PGs with safety regulations and tenant verification norms.
