Karnataka’s curtain-raiser to Unlock3 — record 6,128 Covid cases!

Bengaluru keeps its dubious crown with 2,333 new cases

BENGALURU:

In a stark irony, just a day after the Centre announced further loosening of Covid-related restrictions, coronavirus cases in Karnataka crossed  the 6,000 mark for the first time in a single day.

The state reported a total of 6,128 new infections while 3,793 people recovered. In addition, 83 people have died due to the dreaded virus out of which Bengaluru reported 22 deaths.

As per the bulletin released by the state health department, the total number of cases in the state has swollen to 1,18,632. Altogether, 46,694 have been cured and 2,230 have died statewide. Nationwide, Karnataka has the second highest number of active cases at 69,700.

On Thursday, Bengaluru  reported 2,333 positive cases, for a caseload of 53,324, of which 36,523 are active cases. As many as 15,791 patients have recovered in the city.

Of the 6,128 new positive cases detected on Thursday, the highest number of 2,233 cases was reported in Bengaluru. The others were: Mysuru 430, Ballari 343, Udupi 248, Bengaluru Rural 224, Kalaburagi 220, Belagavi 202, Dakshina Kannada 198, Dharwad 180, Raichur 166, Shivamogga 143, Bagalkot 126, Chikkamagalur 126, Vijayapura 124, Uttara Kannada 120, Ramanagara 104, Tumkur 104, Hassan 94, Gadag 88, Mandya 87, Davanagere 86, Chikkaballapur 82, Koppal 78, Bidar 69, Yadagiri 58, Haveri 58, Chitradurga 47, Kolar 32 and Chamarajanagar 32.
