CHITRADURGA/BENGALURU: A disturbing incident unfolded on Thursday evening when a young man, Umesh, was viciously attacked by a group of youths from a Muslim community while he was dropping off his colleague, Parveen, after work. The incident took place in Chitradurga, where Umesh, a resident of Eerajjanahatti and an employee at Kohinoor garment store, was targeted for simply offering a ride to a Muslim woman.
Around 8 pm on Thursday, as Umesh was driving towards Chelugudda to drop off Parveen, he was ambushed by about five youths who verbally abused and physically assaulted him. The attack left Umesh with severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
Following the assault, Umesh bravely reported the incident to the Chitradurga Town police, prompting the Superintendent of Police, Dharmendar Kumar, and Deputy Superintendent, Dinakar, to visit him at the government hospital where he was receiving treatment. Meanwhile, members of the Hindu community gathered outside the hospital to protest against the perpetrators and demand justice.
In a shocking turn of events, on Friday, Parveen lodged a complaint against Umesh, accusing him of molesting her during the ride. She claimed that Umesh behaved inappropriately and attempted to take her to a different location than agreed upon, prompting her to raise an alarm. Fortunately, her brother’s friends intervened and escorted her safely home.
The conflicting accounts of the incident have sparked outrage and confusion in the community, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind this troubling situation.
