Bengaluru/Sakleshpur: Train operations on the South Western Railway route were briefly disrupted early Saturday morning after boulders fell onto the track between Yedakumari and Shiribagilu stations. The incident occurred at approximately 4:23 am due to the movement of a material train in the ghat section, railway officials confirmed.
As a result, three passenger trains were regulated for safety:
- Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru – Kannur Express was held at Kadagaravalli.
- Train Nos. 16585 SMVT Bengaluru – Murudeshwar Express and 07377 Vijayapura – Mangaluru Central Express Special were regulated at Sakleshpur.
Railway authorities swiftly responded to the situation, ensuring essential services such as drinking water, breakfast, biscuits, and tea were provided to stranded passengers at the respective halts.
Clearance operations were carried out on a war footing, and by 9:10 am, all boulders were removed. The track was declared fit for movement, albeit with a temporary speed restriction of 20 kmph at the affected stretch.
Train services have now resumed, and all previously regulated trains are continuing their journeys.
Railway officials appreciated the cooperation of passengers and reiterated their commitment to safety and timely updates during such emergencies.
