Bengaluru: Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced that the state government is working swiftly to implement a new policy allowing owners of B-Khata properties within BBMP limits to transition into A-Khata, enabling them to obtain official building plan approvals and bank loans.
Speaking to reporters, Gowda said that a draft notification has already been issued, and public objections are being invited before the policy is finalized and notified. He emphasized that thousands of property owners in Bengaluru, who currently fall under the B-Khata classification, are facing severe hardships as their properties are considered unauthorized, making them ineligible for building permits and institutional financing.
“This new policy provides a legal route for regularisation. Once implemented, these property owners can apply for plan approvals, construct homes in accordance with building norms, and access loans from nationalized banks,” he said.
The cabinet has already given its in-principle approval, Gowda added, stating that a few legal amendments are required before full implementation. He urged citizens to utilize this opportunity to avoid unsafe constructions, which have led to structural collapses in several unauthorized layouts due to the absence of proper sanitation, parking, roads, and water supply.
“This initiative is pro-people. It helps citizens escape the trap of unregulated urban growth and transition to planned, authorized development. Once the changes are gazetted, people should take advantage of the scheme,” Gowda appealed.
