Karnataka reports 115 new Covid cases, tally now 2,533

With 115 new Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday, Karnataka’s tally is now 2,533. This figure includes 834 discharges, 1,650 active cases and 47 deaths, as also two non-Covid fatalities, according to Covid-19 spokesperson Suresh Kumar.

Of Thursday’s cases,  29 were reported in Udupi, 24 in Dakshina Kannada, 13 in Hassan, 12 in Bidar, nine in Bengaluru Urban, seven in Yadagiri, six in Chitradurga, five in Kalaburagi, four in Haveri, three in Chikkamagalur, two in Vijayapura and one in Raichur.

Confirming fears of ‘imported’ infections, 95 of the new cases are inter-state passengers and two are international passengers. As per the health department, 84 of Thursday’s cases have returned from Maharashtra and eight from Tamil Nadu.

Among those discharged on Thursday, 13 are in Davanagere, 12 in Dakshina Kannada, nine each in Yadagiri and Vijayapura, five in Gadag, three in Belagavi, and one each in Mysuru and Bagalkot.

In some relief for the authorities, there were no fatalities in the state on Thursday.

Quarantine change

Meanwhile, the government has issued a circular making changes in the quarantine rules. “A person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine without a Covid test, subject to undergoing a medical check-up,” the minister said.

According to the circular, all those above 60 years or  those with co-morbidities like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment and renal problems will be screened thoroughly before sending them to mandatory home quarantine for seven days.
