Bengaluru: The Karnataka Muzrai Department has issued an order banning the use of plastic in all state-run temples under its jurisdiction, effective from August 15, said Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
Responding to a question by Congress member Madhu G. Madegowda during the Legislative Council’s Question Hour on Wednesday, the minister said that the directive aims to maintain cleanliness within temple premises and strictly enforce the plastic-free policy.
From the enforcement date, any violation of the plastic ban in Muzrai Department temples will attract penalties. Instructions have been issued to temple authorities to impose fines on offenders and, in serious cases, to file criminal cases against those found using or supplying plastic products in temple premises.
“This measure is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility and safeguard the sanctity of religious spaces,” Reddy said.
