Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday temporarily stayed the statewide indefinite strike planned by the KSRTC employees’ joint action committee from Tuesday, aimed at pressing for demands including wage arrears and salary revision.
The Division Bench comprising Justice K.S. Mudagal and Justice M.G.S. Kamal was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by activist Sunil and others, seeking to halt the proposed strike citing public inconvenience. The court issued an interim stay for one day, directing the employee unions not to proceed with the strike until further hearing.
The Bench further asked the state government to submit a report on the outcome of its ongoing conciliation meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and transport department officials. It also issued notices to all respondents, including the state government, KSRTC management, and the joint action committee representing the transport workers.
The court has adjourned the matter to Tuesday for further hearing. Observing that the petition was originally listed before the Chief Justice-led bench, which wasn’t in session today, the division bench clarified that the matter would return to the CJ’s bench and, in the interim, the strike would remain stayed for a day.
