New Delhi / Bengaluru: The Government of India has informed Parliament that the Government of Karnataka has committed ₹31,534 crore towards various phases of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project, accounting for 41.73% of the total project cost.

The information was provided in a written reply in the Lok Sabha to Unstarred Question raised by Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan regarding financial support for the Bengaluru Metro project.

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu stated that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had reported the financial commitments made by the state government for different phases of the metro network.

The reply further noted that as per the Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of India, the Government of Karnataka, and BMRCL, the state government is responsible for covering operational cash losses if required during the operational phase of the metro system.

Karnataka Has Committed ₹31,534 Crore for Bengaluru Metro Projects, Parliament Told

According to the data presented in Parliament, the Government of Karnataka has already disbursed ₹5,066.65 crore to BMRCL towards debt repayment and reimbursement of operational cash losses up to March 5, 2026.

Phase-Wise Funds Released by Karnataka

The annexure attached to the reply details the phase-wise funding released by the Karnataka government for the Bengaluru Metro project till March 5, 2026:

  • Phase-1: ₹6,127.88 crore
  • Phase-2: ₹13,225.38 crore
  • Phase-2A & 2B: ₹6,084.00 crore
  • Phase-3: ₹1,747.06 crore

This brings the total funds released by the state government to ₹27,184.32 crore across the different phases of the metro project.

The Bengaluru Metro, one of India’s largest urban rail networks, continues to expand with multiple corridors under construction and planning to address the growing mobility demands of the city.
