Bengaluru: In a major step towards urban governance reform, the Karnataka Government has issued a draft notification proposing the creation of five separate City Corporations within the Greater Bengaluru region. The move is part of the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024 (Act No. 36 of 2025).
The notification, issued by the Urban Development Department, cites parameters such as population size, density, revenue generation, employment patterns, and infrastructure availability as the basis for restructuring the Bengaluru Metropolitan Area.
The proposed corporations include:
- Bengaluru West City Corporation
- Bengaluru South City Corporation
- Bengaluru North City Corporation
- Bengaluru East City Corporation
- Bengaluru Central City Corporation
Detailed boundary descriptions for each of the five corporations have been included in Schedule-I of the notification.

Submissions can be addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, at Vikasa Soudha, Bengaluru.
The proposal will come into force after the final notification is published under Section 5(3) and Section 7(3) of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act.
This restructuring marks a significant shift in Bengaluru’s administrative landscape, aiming to decentralize governance, improve service delivery, and align with the city’s rapidly growing population and infrastructure needs.
