Karnataka Govt Proposes Five City Corporations Under Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, Seeks Public Feedback Within 30 Days

Bengaluru: In a major step towards urban governance reform, the Karnataka Government has issued a draft notification proposing the creation of five separate City Corporations within the Greater Bengaluru region. The move is part of the implementation of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024 (Act No. 36 of 2025).

The notification, issued by the Urban Development Department, cites parameters such as population size, density, revenue generation, employment patterns, and infrastructure availability as the basis for restructuring the Bengaluru Metropolitan Area.

The proposed corporations include:

  1. Bengaluru West City Corporation
  2. Bengaluru South City Corporation
  3. Bengaluru North City Corporation
  4. Bengaluru East City Corporation
  5. Bengaluru Central City Corporation

Detailed boundary descriptions for each of the five corporations have been included in Schedule-I of the notification.

The state government has now invited objections or suggestions from the public, which must be submitted within 30 days of publication of the draft notification in the official gazette. Submissions can be addressed to the Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development Department, at Vikasa Soudha, Bengaluru.

The proposal will come into force after the final notification is published under Section 5(3) and Section 7(3) of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act.
