Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said farmers would receive ₹7 of the ₹8 increase in milk prices, while ₹1 would go towards the maintenance of milk unions.
Shivakumar said there had been a demand for a ₹12 increase, but the government raised the price by ₹8. He made the remarks while responding to questions in Bengaluru on Friday.
He said milk prices were higher in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and that Karnataka milk was being supplied to neighbouring states. The issue had also been discussed in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, he said.
The Chief Minister was also asked about criticism that his government was raising prices. He replied that it was following the policy of the Central government.
