Bengaluru: In a significant development, K. Govindaraj has been relieved of his duties as the political secretary to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, effective immediately, as announced by the government on Thursday.
This decision comes in the wake of a tragic stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, resulting in the loss of 11 lives and leaving 56 others injured. The incident took place on Wednesday evening, as a large crowd gathered to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory in the Indian Premier League.
An official notification stated, “The appointment of K. Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, K. Govindaraj is hereby relieved from the post of Political Secretary to the Chief Minister.”
In a related move, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also suspended Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda along with four other senior police officials in connection with the stampede, underscoring the government’s commitment to accountability in the wake of this tragic event.
