Karnataka CET starts today, Minister checks out exam centre preparations

Only 2 students per bench, separate room for Covid-positive candidates: Narayan

All the necessary precautions have been taken to safely conduct CET-2021 at 530 centres across the state on August 28 and 29.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said candidates who have tested Covid-19 positive will write the exam in separate rooms in the respective centres. He said of the 12 students who have tested positive, 10 are in Bengaluru, 1 in Kolar and 1 in Shivamogga.

A total of 2,01,816 candidates have registered for CET-2021, which will be held in 86 centres in Bengaluru and 444 centres outside Bengaluru. The Kannada language test for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates will be held on August 30 at 6 locations.

Each room is arranged to accommodate 24 students, with 2 students per bench and a gap of 3 feet between the benches, the Minister said.

20,000 on exam duty

Deputy Commissioners of the respective districts have deputed one observer of Assistant Commissioner rank to each examination centre. The exam duty staff include 530 observers, 1,060 special invigilation squad members, 530 custodians, and around 8,409 invigilators. A total of 20,415 staff have been deployed for exam duty, Narayan said.

The test for Biology and Maths is scheduled on August 28 and for Physics and Chemistry on August 29. The Kannada language test will be conducted on August 30 for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates at Bidar, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Ballari, Mangalore and Bengaluru, for which 1,682 candidates have registered.

Covid precautions

Paramedical staff have been deployed at each test centre and each centre is equipped with a thermal scanner. Each centre will also have a sanitizer and 100 masks to ensure that no one takes the test without wearing a masks, the Minister said.

“Steps have been taken to ply additional buses to facilitate commuting of students to the test centres. In the border areas, district authorities have been directed to allow students and parents to travel based on the hall ticket of the CET so that they can reach the test centres well in time,” Narayan said.

Time will be given for submitting the required documents online for those who have sought reservations while applying to CET. Time will also be given for students under the special categories to submit the documents and also for seeking corrections. The minimum cut-off marks for admission to engineering and medical courses will be decided after the announcement of the CET results, Narayan said.

Earlier, the Higher Education Minister visited the Government Pre-University College at 18th Cross, Malleswaram and inspected the preparations being made for conducting the CET.

Instructions for candidates:

• Candidates have to compulsorily wear masks while writing the examination.

• Candidates have to write their name on the OMR answer sheet. Candidates have to enter the CET number, version code of the question booklet and shade the respective circles on the OMR answer sheet.

• Candidates have to confirm that the question booklet serial number printed on the OMR sheet matches with the serial number printed on the question booklet.

• Candidates are advised to follow the timetable as per the schedule of bell timings and reach the examination centre at least half an hour before the first bell. (Visit KEA Website http://kea.kar.nic.in for details).

• Candidates are expected to carry their admission tickets and any one valid identity card (like college ID, bus pass, driving licence, passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card).

• Candidates are not allowed to wear/carry any type of wristwatch to the examination hall/room. They cannot carry any tablet/mobile/calculator to the examination hall.

• Left hand thumb Impression on the OMR answer sheet NOT to be affixed by the candidates on the OMR answer sheet.
