1.6 lakh tablet PCs will be distributed to college students this year: Ashwath Narayan

Dy CM Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, who is also the MLA from Malleswaram constituency, distributed free tablet PCs to students of the Malleswaram government first-grade college and inaugurated the college’s computer lab on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the government was giving importance to digital education so that the well-being of students is not affected during the current pandemic.
The government has set a target of converting 8,500 classrooms of higher education into Smart Classrooms, and 2,500 Smart Classrooms have already been launched, Narayan said.
To facilitate digital learning, 1.10 lakh laptops were distributed to degree students last year by spending Rs 330 crore. Likewise, in the current academic year, about 1.6 lakh tablet PCs will be distributed to students of first-grade degree, polytechnic and engineering colleges, he said.
Quality content modules
Besides, to make digital education a reality, the government has created an alternative teaching-learning system which comprises quality content on various topics, and 3.5 lakh such modules developed by the College Education Department at a cost of Rs 4 crore have been uploaded, the DyCM said.

Dr DS Pratima, Principal, Dr C Swaminathan, IQC Coordinator, PN Jayanti, NAAC Coordinator, and Ravishankar and Ravikumar, lecturers of the college, were among those present.
