Bullets still inside body but docs have confirmed he is out of danger

BENGALURU:

Senior IPS officer Rajvir Pratap Sharma, popularly known as RP Sharma, sustained 2 bullet injuries when his service revolver misfired on Wednesday evening at his residence in Dodda Gubbi. He was admitted to a private hospital at Hebbal, where doctors were at the time of this report planning a surgery to remove the bullets from his body. One bullet entered the upper portion of his chest, and the other his neck.

Speaking to TV channels,  city police commissioner Kamal Pant confirmed the incident and said Sharma had admitted that his revolver had misfired.

However, the question that arises is how a senior IPS officer with vast field experience (59-year-old Sharma is due to retire in December) can mishandle his service revolver, more so twice in a row.

Senior police officials have ruled out foulplay and have said they are not going to look into any family/personal angle.

Sharma, who is DGP and chairman, Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, has been undergoing medical treatment since the last couple of years.

Following the incident, his family members rushed him to Columbia Asia Hospital in Hebbal. “The bullets hit vital organs on the left side of his body. Doctors have done a CT scan and will take a  call on how to proceed with the surgery,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
