BENGALURU: In a first of its kind initiative in the state, the Government Old Fort School at Haledkote in Chamarajpet, which recently became Karnataka Public School–English Medium (KPS), now has two buses provided by Dream India Network, a non-government organisation that has adopted the school, for ferrying the schoolchildren.
Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa and Environment and Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre inaugurated these school. Senior officials from both departments were present on the occasion.
Edward Thomas SDB, representing Dream India Network, appealed to the ministers for their support in making the school a model akin to those in Delhi.
Madhu Bangarappa suggested that they aim to create a unique Karnataka model, emphasising that it would be a fitting tribute to the state’s second Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah, who completed his schooling at the same Fort School.
Both ministers, along with the children, participated in the ‘Sasya Syamala’ programme by planting numerous trees on the Old Fort School premises. Eshwar Khandre took the opportunity to call upon all stakeholders to transform all schools in Karnataka into green campuses and to encourage each child to take responsibility for nurturing one tree.
School principal Narayanappa and vice-principal Hema were entrusted with the responsibility of making the school a model for an environmentally friendly educational institution offering high-quality education.
Representatives of Teach for India and Building Blocks, both part of the school adoption programme at Old Fort School, were also present.
