Bengaluru: The IEEE Radar Conference will be held in India for the first time, at the Sheraton Grand hotel in Whitefield from May 1 to 6, 2027, with 231 experts set to present research papers, organisers said. IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society vice-president Puneet Kumar Mishra said it is the first edition in Asia, after earlier ones in the United States and Europe.
He was speaking at a news conference at the hotel on Monday. About half of the presenters are Indian researchers, he said.
Opportunity for young engineers
Mishra said the conference gives Indian technology a platform on the global stage and lets students and young engineers learn from experts from around the world.
- Registration to present a paper usually costs $1,000; for Indians it is set at $100.
- The last date for paper submission is November 30, 2026.
- Topics include cognitive technology, artificial intelligence, communication, space, weather, future satellites, global security and the role of radar in present-day electronic warfare.
DRDO and LRDE
DRDO Director General B.K. Das said the conference would be a good platform to showcase the achievements of Indian, and particularly Bengaluru’s, radar technology and the talent of young scientists. He said artificial intelligence has entered every field and radar faces its challenges, and that small drones are being used on battlefields, making radar technology critical for future wars.
Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) director Sheikh Alaf said radar was earlier used mostly in defence and aerospace but its use has since widened, and that multimodal radar operations combined with AI are now necessary.
