BENGALURU: Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who has been abroad ever since the obscene video case broke out, on Monday released a video statement from an undisclosed location.

Prajwal Revanna said he will return to the country on May 31 and present himself before the special investigation team (SIT). He is ready to face legal consequences and termed it a political conspiracy by vested interests who do not tolerating  his growth in politics.

This comes three days after JD(S) patriarch and former PM H D Deve Gowda had written an open letter, warning Prajwal Revanna to return immediately and subject himself to the legal process.

Deve Gowda had warned Prajwal to come back and face the investigation wherever he was. “If he did not pay attention to my words, Prajwal would be separated from the family”, Deve Gowda had said.  He had said that Prajwal Revanna should not test his patience any further.

In the video, Prajwal Revanna sought apology from his parents, his grandfather former PM H D Deve Gowda and his uncle and JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy. He also apologised to the party workers.

In the video, Prajwal Revanna said, “There was no case booked against me on the day of the election, which was held on April 26 and no SIT was not formed. My foreign trip was also pre-planned.  I came to know about the pen drive while I was watching YouTube 3-4 days after reaching my destination. The SIT had a issued notice and I had sought seven days time in my reply through my ‘X’ account and also through my lawyer”.

“Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and other leaders started talking about this issue in the public meetings during campaigns. I would say it is a completely political conspiracy. Then, I went into depression and isolated myself”,  he added.

Prajwal further said, “Some vested interest in Hassan have politically conspired against me. They wanted to end my political career and get me entangled in many cases. I had distanced myself as I was in shock, so do not mistake me. On Friday, May 30, I will present myself before SIT and I will cooperate with the inquiry. I have faith in the courts. I will come out of these hurdles  through court. I pray for the blessings from my family and the public”.

Prajwal Revanna fled abroad soon after the incident came to light. Earlier, it was believed that he went to Frankfurt in Germany and later to Dubai in the UAE.
