BENGALURU: The State Human Rights Commission raided the Anekal police station after allegations of illegal detention of a person in a theft case.
The police had brought a man named Vittal Acharya for questioning in a gold theft case and had detained him at the police station for two days. Vittal Acharyaâs wife Sarvamangala filed an HRC case at the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission regarding illegal detention.
Following the complaint, the Human Rights Commission suddenly raided the police station, led by the Human Rights Commissionâs Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohan. Officers visited the station and conducted an inquiry.
Vittalâs wife Sarvamangala alleged that Anekal police forcefully brought her husband to the station and threatened them that they will fix him in many other cases if he did not give gold. âThe police are pressurising him to admit to the gold theft case and forcing him to sign on blank paper. They are torturing the family and demanding goldâ, she said..
The statement of Vittal Acharya, who was in detention, was recorded. Officers obtained information from the police in connection with the case, reviewed the files and returned.
