Hubballi: In a key development in the Neha Hiremath murder case, a local court in Hubballi on Monday rejected the bail plea of the prime accused Fayaz, who had allegedly stabbed the 23-year-old student to death on her college campus in April this year.
First Additional District and Sessions Judge Pallavi B R denied the bail application filed by Fayaz, who has been in judicial custody at Dharwad Central Prison for the past 1 year and 4 months.
Neha, an MCA first-year student and daughter of Congress corporator Niranjan Hiremath, was brutally murdered on April 18, 2024, on the premises of BVB College in Hubballi, allegedly by her former batchmate Fayaz after she rejected his romantic advances.
Fayaz, 23, an MCA dropout, had previously studied with Neha during their Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course. On the day of the incident, he reportedly confronted her on campus and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death on the spot.
Reacting emotionally to the court’s decision, Neha’s father Niranjan Hiremath told:
“The judge has denied bail to the man who took my daughter’s life. This is our first victory. But our fight will continue till he is awarded capital punishment.”
Fayaz attended the hearing through video conference from Dharwad Central Jail. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for August 6, 2025.
