Hindu groups state protest in Srirangapatna against forced conversion

Date:

MANDYA: Activists of the Hindu Hitarakshana Samiti on Tuesday took out a rally on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway and formed a human chain at the Kuvempu Circle in Srirangapatna in protest against religious conversion. Several leaders and activists of other Hindu groups also participated.

The activists condemned the forced conversion attempt on a woman and her mother by her husband in Palahalli. They sat in protest in front of the Srirangapatna police station and demanded the arrest of the culprit. They also took out a procession through the main streets of the town.

“Despite evidence, the police are not taking any action and are instead protecting the culprit. When stones were pelted at police personnel and were abused, it is we who stood by you. But now, you are giving vague replies, if you can’t arrest the accused, give it in writing”, the activists demanded Deputy SP Shantamallappa.

After the police assured the protesters of arresting the accused, the activists called off their protest.

Significantly, veteran leader B.S. Yediyurappa — who had limited his appearances at the BJP office to core committee meetings — was seen at the party headquarters for two consecutive days. Sources suggest that Shah, during his closed-door interactions, advised the Lingayat strongman to become more active in state affairs and guide the party from the front.
