Sept 14 rally in city targets ‘Hindi Diwas’

BENGALURU:

Kannadiga resentment against Hindi ‘imposition’ is picking up steam ahead of ‘Hindi Diwas’ on September 14.

The campaign is gaining momentum on social media with pro-Kannada activists, social workers and writers raising their voice against the ‘imposition’ of Hindi. Sandalwood stars like Chetan and Prakash Raj are lending their support to the protests.

Under the hash tags ‘Kannadiga’ and ‘Stop Hindi Imposition’, netizens are expressing their opposition by wearing T-shirts printed with slogans like ‘We do not know Hindi’ and ‘Stop imposing Hindi’.

Actor Prakash Raj

Multilingual actor Prakash Raj tweeted that he can work in many languages, but “my learning, my perception, my roots, my strength, my pride, my mother tongue is Kannada.” His tweet has garnered many ‘likes’.

On Sunday, pro-Kannada organizations launched a Twitter campaign to protest the Central government’s ‘imposition’ of Hindi.

The organizations plan to hold a rally on Monday demanding the cancellation of ‘Hindi Diwas’. The rally will proceed from Town Hall to Freedom Park on September 14 at 11 am.
