BENGALURU:
Following an appeal seeking permission to conduct GP elections where the term has ended, the High Court on Friday permitted the conduct of Gram Panchayat election and directed the State Election Commission to release time schedule within three weeks.
The High Court Division bench comprising Chief Justice A S Oka and Justice Ashok S Kinagi, in their verdict, have directed the Election Commission to announce the date of GP elections within 3 weeks and if there is requirement of money it can contact the Governor.
In an inevitable circumstances the elections could be postponed, that too it has to be decided by the Election Commission not the government, the Court observed. (Agency)
