Govt firm on Mekedatu project: CM

The government is committed to implementing the Mekedatu project, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said on Friday. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are in a face- off over the drinking water project.

Speaking to media after offering ‘bagina’ to the KRS reservoir, he said the reservoir has reached its maximum level 36 times since its construction. “I am fortunate enough to be presenting ‘bagina’ to the Cauveri for the 5th time,” the CM said.

“Steps will be taken to make Brindavan Gardens a world-class tourist destination,”he said. “This is the first time our government has undertaken repair work on 16 gates of the KRS reservoir at a cost of Rs 8.5 crore,” the CM said, adding that the Irrigation Department has commissioned 28 works across the state at a cost of Rs 75,000 crore.
