GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao Reviews ₹33.5 Crore Ulsoor Lake Project, Issues Key Civic Directions
Bengaluru: GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao inspected the ongoing development works at Ulsoor Lake, a 106-acre waterbody undergoing comprehensive rejuvenation at a cost of ₹33.50 crore.
The project includes desilting, construction of a two-tier walkway, installation of safety grills, inlet box culverts, repair of six islands, and bund strengthening works. Officials informed that the entire project is expected to be completed before the onset of the monsoon.
During the inspection, it was also noted that the construction of a bridge connecting the adjoining park to the lake is nearing completion. The old Kalyani structure has been removed, and a new one is currently under construction.
Senior officials including Additional Commissioner (Development) Daljit Kumar, Joint Commissioners Ranganath and Hemanth Sharan, CEO Ramamani, Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, and other officers were present during the visit.
Key Instructions Issued:
• Bamboo saplings should be planted and properly maintained along footpaths on Old Madras Road.
• Tippers must be procured and used for sanitation work instead of tractors to improve efficiency.
• Shoulder drains along roads must be desilted before the monsoon to prevent waterlogging.
• Unauthorized constructions on BMRCL land at the 100 Feet Road junction must be cleared immediately.
• Road damage caused due to BWSSB wall issues should be repaired at the earliest.
• Vehicles parked on footpaths must be removed, and fines imposed on violators to ensure pedestrian safety.
The inspection highlights the administration’s focus on lake rejuvenation, urban infrastructure improvement, and pedestrian-friendly civic management in Bengaluru.
