Bengaluru: In a strong move to boost property tax collection, the Bengaluru East City Corporation has begun sealing commercial and non-residential buildings that have failed to pay property tax for several years in the Mahadevapura Zone.

Guided by the directions of City Corporation Commissioner D. S. Ramesh, enforcement teams sealed banks, hotels, and commercial complexes that continued operations despite long-pending tax arrears.

Sealing Drive to Recover Tax Dues

Officials said that properties with one year or more of unpaid property tax had been served statutory notices and granted sufficient time to comply. However, due to continued non-payment, sealing action was initiated as per rules.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Joint Commissioner Dr. Dakshayini K., with ward-wise teams identifying properties with the highest arrears and enforcing sealing to ensure recovery.

Infrastructure Review Under ‘Suraksha-75’ Project

A separate infrastructure review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar, focusing on junction development under the Suraksha-75 Project in Bengaluru East.

Key Decisions Taken

  • Comprehensive development of major junctions at Marathahalli, Varthur Kodi, Bagmane Tech Park, Kundalahalli, Outer Ring Road–Embassy Tech Village, and Sarjapur Junction, with instructions to accelerate works
  • Integrated development of entry and exit points along Outer Ring Road to reduce traffic congestion
  • Preparation of micro-plans to remove footpath encroachments near flyovers and underpasses on ORR
  • Immediate clearance of encroachments on relinquishment deed (RD) properties and transfer of such land to civic ownership

PG Inspection & Penalty

As part of regulatory enforcement, Additional Commissioner (Revenue) Pragna Amembala conducted an inspection of AL Co-Living PG at White Rose Layout, Kadugodi.

During inspection, it was found that the PG was operating without renewal of trade licence and failed to maintain hygiene standards in the dining area. A penalty of ₹50,000 was imposed as per rules. Medical officers and health supervisors were present during the inspection.

The day’s meetings were attended by Chief Engineer Krishnamurthy, along with Executive Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers from the Bengaluru East City Corporation.
