BENGALURU:
Bengaluru has become the happy hunting ground of the coronavirus. On Friday, the city reported its highest single-day surge of 994 cases, leaving behind the previous mark of 947 on June 29 and making it seven straight days of 500-plus cases. The state as a whole saw a record number of 21 deaths in the last 24 hours.
As per the health department bulletin, the state’s death tally is now 293. Of the 21 deaths reported on Friday, Bengaluru city registered 5 and Bengaluru Rural 1. All the victims had shown symptoms of breathlessness.
The other deaths reported were: Kalaburagi 3, Chikkaballapur 2, Vijayapura 2, and Ballari, Shivamogga, Hassan, Davanagere, Bidar and Raichur one each.
Of the state’s 1,694 new cases on Friday, 994 were in Bengaluru, 97 in Bellary, 97 in Dakshina Kannada, 72 in Kalaburagi, 57 in Tumakuru, 44 in Bengaluru Rural, 38 in Dharwad, 35 in Mysuru, 33 in Mandya, 28 in Bidar, 24 in Chamarajanagar, 23 in Shivamogga, 19 in Gadag, and 16 each in Udupi and Kodagu.

Overall, Karnataka has seen 8,805 discharges while it has 10,608 active cases out of a total of 19,710 positive cases. Of these, 201 patients are being treated in ICUs.
