Vijay Shankar allegedly failed to point out lacunae in the inquiry conducted by LC Nagaraj (the then Bengaluru Urban assistant commissioner, who gave a clean chit to the IMA and is another accused in the case), forwarding it to the Karnataka government and recommending closure of the case, for which he allegedly received Rs 1.50 crore from an IMA director.

Vijay Shankar was accused number 18 in the case. Several IPS officers are also accused in the IMA case and the CBI has sought prosecution of these IPS officers too.

The main accused in the IMA case, Mohammed Mansoor Khan, managing director of the company,  is still in judicial custody.
