Bengaluru: In a significant push towards holistic urban development and improved quality of life, the Bengaluru South City Corporation has initiated the formation of an expert advisory committee, with Commissioner K.N. Ramesh leading consultations with domain specialists.

At a high-level meeting held on Friday, the Commissioner emphasized the need for structured expert input to address urban challenges and implement development goals announced in the civic budget. The move is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and ensuring data-driven, sustainable governance across the city.

Experts on Board

The consultation brought together specialists from diverse fields:

  • Parthasarathi – Information Technology Expert
  • Ashwin Mahesh – Urban Design & Mobility Expert
  • Padmashree – Solid Waste Management (SWM) Expert
  • Dr. Shanthi – HSR Layout Citizens Forum
  • Prasanna Rao – Urban Design & Architecture Expert

Key Recommendations

The expert panel proposed a series of actionable solutions:

Structured Governance Framework:
Develop a systematic administrative process with efficient communication channels for better city management.

Data-Driven Planning:
Create a comprehensive digital database covering roads, lakes, parks, drainage systems, and commercial establishments for informed decision-making.

Waste Management Reforms:

  • Strengthen monitoring systems, especially ahead of the monsoon
  • Increase garbage collection frequency to 2–3 times daily
  • Establish “garbage kiosks” for better segregation and disposal
  • Mandate large waste generators to set up their own processing systems

Internal Audits & Human Resources:
Conduct regular internal studies to identify root causes of civic issues and deploy adequate manpower for effective implementation.

Commissioner’s Vision

Commissioner K.N. Ramesh underlined that citizen participation and expert collaboration will be central to the city’s development strategy.

Inclusive Governance: The corporation will actively involve experts and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) rather than relying solely on internal staff.
Policy Integration: Expert recommendations will be incorporated into budget planning and execution of development projects.
Dynamic Committee: The advisory panel will function continuously, with scope for expansion based on requirements.

Focus on Youth & Innovation

To harness fresh ideas, the civic body plans to introduce internship opportunities for college students in areas such as urban planning, design, and public health, enabling youth participation in governance.

Institutional Collaboration

The corporation is also exploring partnerships with reputed institutions like Bosch and RV institutions to leverage CSR funding, technical expertise, and human resources for city development projects.

Strengthening Communication

To ensure continuous engagement, the Commissioner announced that regular consultations will be held via email and video conferencing, maintaining an active dialogue between experts and civic authorities.

Senior officials including Additional Commissioner Naveen Kumar Raju, Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade, and other senior officers were also present at the meeting.

The initiative marks a strategic shift towards expert-led, participatory urban governance, aiming to make Bengaluru more resilient, efficient, and citizen-friendly.
