Bengaluru, with most cases, may not get off lightly
BENGALURU:
While Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has minced no words in calling for a two-week extension of the current lockdown, the Karnataka government’s decision in this regard may hinge on the inputs of eminent doctors like Dr Devi Shetty and Dr Manjunath.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has repeatedly hinted that the state lockdown may not be lifted after April 14. However, he has held out the ‘hope’ that it could be relaxed in a phased manner.
Bengaluru, with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the state, may not get a full relaxation after April 14.
Sources said that Dr Devi Shetty had played a vital role during his conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to the implementation of the 21-day lockdown in the entire country.
Dr Devi Shetty is known to be in constant touch with the Karnataka government and could be a major factor in a lockdown extension.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Primary Education Minister Suresh Kumar said that so far the Karnataka government had not taken any decision to extend the lockdown but discussions were continuing.
He said, “Health experts like Dr Devi Shetty and Dr Manjunath are discussing further steps to be taken after completion of the lockdown. So far we haven’t decided to extend the lockdown.”
