Bengaluru, October 16: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar welcomed Dr Sudha Yadav as Karnataka’s new Governor, describing her appointment as the beginning of a new chapter for the state and inviting her to participate in the Mysuru Dasara celebrations.
Speaking at a welcome programme for the new Governor and a farewell for outgoing Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot at the Vidhana Soudha Banquet Hall on Friday, Shivakumar said Karnataka had now received its second woman Governor.

He recalled that Rama Devi had earlier served as the state’s first woman Governor and said the government now had an opportunity to work with Dr Sudha Yadav.
“Let us work together with renewed enthusiasm,” Shivakumar said, while also noting that Yadav had taken oath as Governor on her birthday.
The Chief Minister invited the new Governor to attend the Mysuru Dasara festivities, describing the festival as a reflection of Karnataka’s culture and heritage.
Shivakumar also spoke about the transition from Gehlot to Yadav, saying the former Governor had worked with the state for five years and had cooperated with the government.
He said Gehlot had become familiar with Karnataka’s administration, culture, heritage and people during his tenure and had now handed over charge to Dr Sudha Yadav.
Shivakumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had informed him over the phone about the appointment of the new Governor.
He said he had conveyed to them that the state government had accepted most of the decisions taken by the Governor.
Paying tribute to Gehlot’s tenure, Shivakumar said the government had approached him on several issues and that he had not only supported the administration but also offered guidance aimed at improving the lives of people in the state.
He said Karnataka continued to make a major contribution to the country in areas including the economy, technology and governance.
Shivakumar also acknowledged the role of the state’s administrative machinery, saying officials were working to provide governance of national and international standards.
He thanked Gehlot for his cooperation and said the state government looked forward to working with the new Governor with the same spirit of coordination.
