BENGALURU:
The draconian decision of the Karnataka government, as announced by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday, to virtually lock down the entire state may well have been prodded by a brief but succinct letter penned by Infosys Foundation trustee Sudha Murthy.
In her letter, she refers to her discussion with Dr. Devi Shetty on ways to control the spread of Covid-19 and makes the following points: Close all schools and colleges with immediate effect; close all malls, theatres and air-conditioned areas; allow only essential services like pharmacies, grocery stores and petrol pumps.
Her letter proposes that one government hospital with 500-700 beds be reserved exclusively for corona virus cases. Mrs. Murthy adds that Infosys Foundation will do the civil work and Dr. Devi Shetty has agreed to share resources like medical equipment.
