BENGALURU: There has been an alarming rise in dengue cases in the city following the rains in July and August which led to waterlogging in some areas and due to lack of sanitation.
In a metropolis like Bengaluru, the rate of infection should be lower, but dengue cases in the city are higher than in the state. On August 1, 2,384 dengue cases were detected. About 4,926 cases have been detected from January to September 7.
With the increase in cases in the city, Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao, who held a meeting with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities, has given instructions to control the spread of dengue.
The Health Minister said dengue cases have increased in eight zones of Bengaluru, especially, Bengaluru South and Bengaluru East where the number of cases have crossed 1,000. Out of 4,926 dengue cases, 272 were detected in Bommanahalli, 73 in Dasarahalli, 1,218 in Bengaluru East zone, 875 in Mahadevapura, 457 in RR Nagar, 1,003 in Bengaluru South, 635 in Benagluru West and 393 in Yelahanka.
