Bengaluru: A passenger travelling by train from Delhi to Bengaluru was arrested after DRI officers recovered 5.753 kg of a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine from the passenger’s trolley bag, the Finance Ministry said.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s Mangalore Regional Unit intercepted the Indian national during an intelligence-led operation on October 8–9. A detailed search of the bag uncovered three packets, according to the ministry’s release.

The substance was seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. After the arrest, the passenger was remanded to judicial custody by the competent NDPS court, the ministry said.
The release said the seizure exceeded the notified commercial-quantity threshold of 50 grams for methamphetamine. It described the applicable punishment as 10–20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1–2 lakh. The recovered substance remains described as suspected methamphetamine in the official account.
