Decision soon on easing border curbs, reopening primary classes: Karnataka CM

Bommai says vaccination of 2-18 age group in Karnataka to begin soon

BENGALURU/MANGALURU:

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said a decision on relaxation of Covid restrictions in the border areas and reopening of primary schools would be taken soon after a meeting with the state expert committee. He was speaking to reporters at the Mangaluru airport.

He said the expert panel is assessing the situation in the districts of Karnataka bordering Kerala and Maharashtra. A meeting would be held with the expert committee soon after Dasara on the issue of relaxing the restrictions in the border districts.

A decision will also be taken on the reopening of primary schools, the CM added. Covid vaccination trials on children in the 2-18 age group are in the final stages, and vaccination for this group will be taken up soon, Bommai said.

Decision on cases against citizens

On the issue of cases and chargesheets filed against members of the public during the pandemic, the CM said a decision on withdrawing such cases will be taken after talks with police officials.

Replying to a query on ‘moral policing’, the CM said the ‘sentiments’ of the people should not be hurt. “We should all try to maintain harmony in society as no one can live without morals. It is the responsibility of each and everyone,” he said.
