Revenue Minister Ashoka announces Rs 10,000 relief to affected families
MANGALURU:
Nearly eight people have died and 121 villages have been badly affected in 22 taluks of coastal Karnataka due to cyclone Tauktae.
Revenue Minister R Ashoka, who also heads the state disaster management committee, visited cyclone-affected areas in the city and said that as per initial reports around 333 homes have been damaged while 644 power poles have come down. So far, around 290 people have been given shelter by the district administration.
Two each deaths have been reported from Dakshina Kannada and Belagavi district followed by one each from Udipi, Uttara Kananda, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru.

ಮೃತ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ತಲಾ 10 ಲಕ್ಷವನ್ನು MRPL ಕಂಪನಿಯಿಂದ ನೀಡಲು ಸೂಚನೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. 182 ಕುಟುಂಬಗಳಿಗೆ ತಲಾ 10 ಸಾವಿರ ರೂ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು, ಭಾಗಶಃ ಮನೆ ಹಾನಿಯಾದವರಿಗೆ 1ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ, ಪೂರ್ತಿ ಮನೆ ಹಾನಿಯಾದವರಿಗೆ 5 ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂ ಪರಿಹಾರ ನೀಡಲಾಗುವುದು.
Compensation for house damage
He said that as part of immediate relief, the district administration has distributed Rs 10,000 to affected families. He added that compensation of Rs 1 lakh in case of partial damage to houses and Rs 5 lakh for more serious damage to houses will be given after a survey.
All district Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to prepare an estimate of the damage. The Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts have received a total amount of Rs 106 crore in relief, the Minister said.
