CHIKKABALLAPUR:
The cow slaughter issue has once again come to the fore with Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar stating that the BJP is committed to banning cow slaughter.
Speaking at a function to inaugurate a ‘goshala’ organised by the Akhila Karnataka Vokkaligara Okkuta here on Sunday, the minister said there is a need for a people’s movement against cow slaughter. “Cow is like a member of the family and it is a crime to kill cows,” Sudhakar said.
“Cow is worshipped in our culture, and there needs to be a detailed discussion in both assembly and council on banning the export of beef,” he said. Recalling that his own family had kept cows, he claimed that cowdung acts as a disinfectant.
Bhoomi puja
Earlier, the minister took part in the bhoomi puja for a ‘Guru Bhavan’, organised by the zilla panchayat, the district administration and the education department. He also participated in the stone laying ceremony for a Shri Anjaneya Swamy temple and a renovation ceremony for the Shri Eeranna Swamy temple.
