Minister says decision taken to safeguard children’s health
BENGALURU:
Amid a renewed surge in Covid-19 cases in Bengaluru city, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar on Thursday announced suspension of physical classes for Standards 6 to 9 in Bengaluru Urban district.
A late-evening press statement in Kannada from the Minister’s office said classes were being suspended due to a surge in Covid-19 positive cases in Bengaluru city and Bengaluru Urban district.
The Minister also said that classes would be shut till further orders.
Kumar said that before taking the decision, he had held discussions with the Chief Minister and it was decided to shut physical classes for these age groups, considering the health of the younger generation.

Standard 10 continues
The Minister said that physical classes for Standard 10 will continue until further orders but maintained that attendance is not compulsory.
Kumar also said that classes in other parts of the state -will continue to function normally. The government will take appropriate decisions considering students’ safety, he added.
The Minister made it clear that the necessary guidelines will be issued in the coming days on the examinations for Standards 6 to 9 under the provisions of the Compulsory Education Act.
