COVID-19: Night curfew in Karnataka for 10 days from December 28

The Karnataka government has decided to impose ”night curfew” for 10 days from December 28, between 10 pm to 5 am, Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Sunday.

The government has also announced certain restrictions for New Year related parties and gatherings, amid fresh COVID-19 concerns with new clusters emerging and increasing threat of the new Omicron variant of Coronavirus.

”From December 28 onwards, for about ten days to begin with, we would like to watch by calling a night curfew, invoking Section 144, from night 10 PM to the next morning 5 AM,” Sudhakar said.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting of senior Ministers, officials and the COVID technical advisory committee, chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, he said there is a curb on functions and gatherings for the New Year.

”There will be no functions, parties in the external premises, especially for those celebrating with DJs and large gatherings, they have been completely banned in Karnataka,” he said. The Minister also said that in places like eateries, hotels, pubs and restaurants can have 50 percent of the seating capacity of the premises.

Important Guidelines

  1. Night Curfew is imposed in state from 10pm to 5am from 28-12-2021 untill 07-01-2022 (5am).
  2. From 30-12-2021 to 02-01-2022 the Hotels/Restaurants/Clubs/pubs will function with 50% of their seating capacity strictly adhering to COVID appropriate behaviour. All staff members of the said entities to compulsorily possess COVID 19 negative RTPCR report and will be fully vaccinated with 2 doses of COVID 19 vaccine.
  3. All gathering, meeting, conferences, including marriages etc, from 28-12-2022 should strictly limit number of participants to 300 people only and COVID appropriate behaviour shall be strictly enforced during the event, the responsibility to enforce the same lies with the organisers.
  4. There shall be intensive patrolling and surveillance at all bordering districts adjoining Maharashtra and Kerala States to prevent spread of COVID 19, particularly Omicron variant, in the State.

Guidelines for Night Curfew

  1. The movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 10 pm to 5 am, except for essential activities,
  2. Patients and their attendants/persons requiring emergency need for movement shall be allowed to move.
  3. All industries/companies which require operations at night shall he permitted to operate. Movement of employees of such organisation shall be allowed on producing valid ID card/authorization.
  4. Employees and vehicles of Telecom and Internet Service provider’,. shall be allowed movement on producing valid ID card issued by their respective organization/institution. Only essential staff/employees of of IT and ITeS companies /organization shall work from office. Rest will work from home.
  5. Medical emergency and essential services including pharmacies shall be fully functional and other commercial activities are prohibited.
  6. There shall be no restriction in movement of all types of goods through trucks, goods vehicles or any goods carriers, including empty vehicles. Home delivery of goods and operations of E-Commerec companies are allowed.
  7. Movement of buses, trains, Metro rail services and air travel are permitted. Movement of Public Transport, private vehicles and taxis to and from airports, bus terminals/bus stand, railway stations, etc, allowed, for facilitating movement of passengers by air, rail and road. The movement will be allowed only on displaying valid travel documents/tickets.
