Bengaluru: In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the recent reopening of schools, the Karnataka government has issued a circular advising parents to refrain from sending their children to school if they exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold.
The circular, released by the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, was prompted by a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 26, where precautionary measures for both government and private schools were discussed.
The circular emphasizes, “If children display symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold, they should not attend school. Parents are advised to seek appropriate medical treatment and care as per their doctor’s recommendations.” It further instructs that children may return to school only after a complete recovery.
In the event that symptomatic children arrive at school, the protocol is to inform their parents and send them home. The Health Department also advises that teachers and non-teaching staff exhibiting similar symptoms should adhere to appropriate precautionary measures.
Additionally, the circular underscores the importance of maintaining strict adherence to health protocols, including hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and other COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviors (CAB).
“Overall, the strict implementation of COVID-19 precautionary measures is essential for safeguarding the health of our school children,” the circular concludes.
As of Friday evening, the state has reported 234 active COVID-19 cases, with three patients who had pre-existing comorbidities succumbing to the virus since January 1.
