Antigen tests for containment zones, primary contacts: Minister
BENGALURU:
Officials are tacitly acknowledging a community spread of the coronavirus in the state as the data shows 15-17 positive results for every 100 tests. As of date, around 30,000-40,000 tests have been conducted statewide for the last 10 days.
As per experts, if the number of infections is more than 5% of every 100 tests, testing should be drastically increased till the percentage falls below 5%. Only then can the severity and control of the infection be brought under control
As per Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar, till date 1.86 lakh antigen tests have been performed in the state. More than 2 lakh kits have been procured recently, he said.
These kits are intended to be quickly deployed throughout the state and tested on people in containment zones, primary contacts and those with health problems.
“If the number of infected people declines by 50 per cent for three consecutive weeks, the spread of infection at the community level is considered to be under control,” the World Health Organization has said.
