CM Siddaramaiah Credits KPCL Workforce for Karnataka’s Power Self-Sufficiency, Promises Recruitment Drive

Date:

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday lauded the employees of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) for their crucial role in making Karnataka self-reliant in electricity production.

Speaking at the 56th Foundation Day celebrations of KPCL, Siddaramaiah said, “As a former KPCL Chairman, I consider myself one among you. I have witnessed this organisation’s journey and growth from close quarters.” He also praised the leadership of Energy Minister K.J. George and KPCL’s officers and staff for steering the company forward effectively.

Electricity Reaches Farmers, Thanks to KPCL Workers
Reflecting on the past, Siddaramaiah recalled the power shortages during his childhood. “We used to study under kerosene lamps. My village only got electricity when I was in Class 8,” he said. He added that the government now provides ₹20,000 crore annually as pump set electricity subsidy for farmers, and KPCL’s efforts ensure that power reaches even the most rural areas.

Karnataka Leads in Clean Energy and Capacity Building
Highlighting the state’s achievements in renewable energy, the CM said, “Karnataka has emerged as a national leader in solar, wind, thermal, hydro, and waste-to-energy power generation. We are marching towards a goal of 60,000 MW production capacity.”

Calls for Social Equity and Scientific Thinking
Siddaramaiah also addressed social inequality, emphasizing the need for economic empowerment to eliminate caste-based discrimination. “Even the educated are turning towards casteism and hatred. We must build scientific temper and humanistic values as envisioned by Kuvempu,” he said.

Assurance on Job Recruitment in KPCL
The Chief Minister assured that the state government would soon take a decision to fill vacant posts in KPCL, addressing staffing concerns within the organisation.
