BENGALURU:

Chief Miniser BS Yediyurappa has directed food and civil supplies department officials that Government Employees and owners of tractors and other vehicles must return the BPL ration cards immediately failing which stringent legal action would be initiated.

He was speaking at the review meeting of food and civil supplies and consumer affairs department at Krishna here on Thursday.

Proper supply of ration must be ensured to eligible beneficiaries and  action has to be taken to prevent misuse of the facility by ineligible persons, he directed.

63,000 ration cards were cancelled before the covid 19 situation. He directed officials to initiate a campaign to cancel all illegal ration cards. He opined that this campaign would help in curtailing the financial burden on the State’s reserves.

Under the support price scheme, Rs.240 crore from recurring deposit has to released to Food and Civil Supplies Corporation to clear the pending payments to the farmers, the Chief Minister directed.

In the backdrop of covid 19 pandemic, both the Central and State Governments have distributed sufficient quantity of ration. About 95 % ration card holders have availed the benefit.

Under the Chief Minister’s Anila Bhagya Scheme, 98079 beneficiaries have been given 3 gas cylinders free of cost.

53 Godowns of the Corporation are in dilapidated condition and 42 plots are under the Corporation’s ownership. The construction of 95 ultra modern Godowns with a capacity of 1000 metric ton is taken up under PPP model. These works should be completed at rapid pace, the Chief Minister directed.

K.Gopaliah, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, T.M.Vijaya Bhaskar, Chief Secretary to Government, N.Manjunath Prasad, Principal Secretary, Food Department and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
