Several pro-Kannada activists were taken into custody earlier in the day, including JDS youth wing president Praveen Kumar and Karnataka Ranadheera Force president Harish Kumar.  Pro-Kannada organizations have opposed the naming of the flyover after Savarkar as he is ‘not a Kannadiga’.

Karnataka Rashtra Samiti president Ravi Krishna Reddy tweeted that despite opposition from the people of Karnataka to the choice of name for the flyover, the government had ignored local sentiments.
