Rs. 162-crore package for veg/fruit growers, powerloom weavers
BENGALURU:
Covering other Covid-hit sections of the state, the Karnataka government on Thursday announced a Rs 162-crore relief package for vegetable and fruit growers and powerloom weavers.
Farmers who grow vegetables in 50,083 hectares or fruits in 41,054 hectares will get Rs 15,000 per hectare for a total of Rs 137 crore, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said.
The minister told media persons that this was in keeping with the CM’s promise to extend relief to sections that had been left out of the earlier relief package of Rs 1,610 crore.
Madhuswamy said the Rs 2,000 one-time assistance given to handloom workers was being extended to workers in 1.25 lakh power loom units. One weaver in each of these units will be given Rs 2,000, amounting to a total package of Rs 25 crore.
The Yediyurappa government had earlier announced compensation of Rs 5,000 each to thousands of washermen, barbers, autorickshaw drivers and cabbies. It had also given Rs 25,000/hectare compensation to affected flower-growers, relaxations in electricity bills for industries, a deposit of Rs 2,000 in the bank accounts of handloom weavers, and Rs 3,000 to construction workers.
