Rs 5 lakh compensation for house collapses: Bommai

CHIKKABALLAPUR/BENGALURU:

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai undertook a tour of rain-affected areas in Chikkaballapur district on Sunday. Speaking to the media later, he said the unseasonal incessant rains in the district have caused 24 house collapses while 1,078 houses have been partially damaged. He added that compensation of Rs 5 lakh would be paid to those whose houses were completely damaged.

Chikkaballapur and Kolar districts have suffered extensive losses to crops, houses and public property in the recent heavy rains. Preliminary reports on the losses had been obtained and a comprehensive report on the exact scale of the destruction would be available in a couple of days. The compensation to be released would be decided after receiving the comprehensive report, Bommai said.

Plan for storm water drain

The Deputy Commissioner had been instructed to pay Rs10,000 immediately as compensation for houses that were partially damaged, he said. The CM also issued orders for preparing a Detailed Project Report for construction of a Rajakaluve from Kandavara irrigation tank to Gopalakrishna tank to avoid flooding in the area.

He assured the affected people of all help from the government and added that the ministers were touring the affected districts to supervise relief work.
