CJ pulls up guidelines-violating lawyers

Date:

BENGALURU:

Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Abhay Shreenivas Oka on Tuesday came down heavily on lawyers violating Covid-19 related guidelines, and asked the state bar council to take action against them.

On Monday at around 9.30 am near High Court Gate 5, some lawyers got into a heated argument with cops after they were stopped from entering the premises.

The CJ said, “I do not understand what they were doing at the court premises at 9.30 am. Advocates must adhere to the guidelines set out for court proceedings and sessions. If the rules are not followed, then the court will be closed.”

Speaking about the hardship faced by court clerks, he said a committee of 10 senior lawyers should look into the issue of raising funds for them.
