Chamarajanagar loses virus-free status with its first case

161 new infections, 2 deaths across Karnataka

Tuesday’s 161 new infections and 2 deaths have taken Karnataka’s count to 5,921 and 66 respectively. Worse, not a single district out of 30 is now virus-free, with Chamarajanagar reporting its first case.

Of Tuesday’s new cases, 91 are returnees from other states — the bulk of them from
Maharashtra — while 24 are overseas returnees.

The cumulative count is: 5,921 Covid-19 positive cases, inclusive of 66 deaths and 2,605 discharges, as per the health department bulletin.

Out of 3,248 active cases, 3,236 are in isolation at designated hospitals while 12 are in ICUs. As many as 164 were discharged on Tuesday.

The two fatalities are a 65-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban and a 17-year-old girl from Kalaburagi.

Yadgir spike

Of Tuesday’s cases, Yadgir had 61, Bengaluru Urban 29, Dakshina Kannada 23, Kalaburagi 10, Bidar 9, Davanagere 8, Koppal 6, Shivamogga 4,Vijayapura, Chikkaballapura, Mysuru and Dharwad 2 each, and Bagalkot, Tumakuru and Chamarajanagar 1 each.

Udupi stays at the top with an infection count of 947, followed by Kalaburagi with 769 and Yadgir with 642.

Bengaluru Urban leads in discharges with 298, followed by Mandya with 236 and Udupi with 234.

A total of 4,00,257 samples have been tested, of which 7,036 were tested on Tuesday. 3,87,027 samples have reported negative, of which 6,397 came negative on Tuesday.
