The controversy surrounding the alleged removal of sacred threads (Janivara) during the CET examination in Bengaluru has intensified, with Krupanidhi Pre-University College initiating disciplinary action against its staff.

In a fresh development, the college has placed multiple staff members under suspension pending inquiry in connection with the incident that occurred during the CET exam on April 23, 2026. Official suspension letters issued on April 24 confirm that the action has been taken as a precautionary measure while a detailed investigation is underway.

According to the suspension orders, the staff members have been relieved from duty with immediate effect and directed to remain available for inquiry proceedings as and when required. The letters clearly state that the suspension is not a final determination but part of the ongoing probe into the matter.

This action follows strong backlash from parents and students, who had alleged that candidates were asked to remove their Janivara at the examination centre, triggering protests and police complaints.

Earlier in the day, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) had issued a clarification stating that there is no prohibition on wearing Janivara or similar religious symbols during CET examinations and that students should not be denied entry on such grounds. The authority also indicated that any deviation from prescribed guidelines would be taken seriously.

The suspension of staff signals that the institution has acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and has moved to ensure accountability. Sources indicate that further action may follow depending on the findings of the inquiry.

The incident has once again brought focus on the implementation of examination guidelines and the need for strict adherence by invigilators, especially in sensitive matters involving religious practices and student rights.
