BJP State Chief Vijayendra Slams Mahadevaappa’s Tipu-KRS Remark, Calls It a Grave Insult to Wodeyars

Date:

Bengaluru: BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on senior Congress minister H.C. Mahadevaappa, calling his recent remarks about Tipu Sultan laying the foundation for the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam “a historical distortion and an unforgivable insult” to the Mysore royal family.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP state office, Jagannath Bhavan, Vijayendra questioned the intent behind the Congress leader’s controversial statement. “Despite being from Mysuru region and knowing its history, why is Mahadevaappa distorting facts? Does Congress derive some satisfaction from repeatedly humiliating the Wodeyar family?” he asked.

Vijayendra pointed out that Tipu Sultan died in 1799, while the idea of constructing the KRS dam was only conceived after 1902. The Madras government granted permission for the dam construction in 1911-12, and it was completed in 1931. “Knowing all this, why would a senior minister make such a baseless claim?” he questioned, accusing Congress of a consistent pattern of undermining the contributions of the Mysore royals.

Accuses Congress of Minority Appeasement

The BJP chief also accused the Siddaramaiah government of indulging in communal appeasement. Referring to the Belagavi incident where poison was allegedly mixed in a school water tank, he said, “Without waiting for the police investigation, the CM defended the Muslim headmaster. Wherever there’s a Muslim involved, this government rushes to protect.”

Criticises Rahul Gandhi’s Karnataka Visit

Responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Bengaluru, Vijayendra termed it a “drama.” “Why visit the Election Commission during the ongoing Parliament session? Is it because Rahul is frustrated by Congress’ repeated electoral failures? Or is it because Narendra Modi’s rising popularity has shaken him?” he asked.

He also alleged that the Congress is creating false narratives of electoral irregularities in Bengaluru. “Claims of voter manipulation in Mahadevapura and Bengaluru Rural are a direct insult to the electorate,” he added.

Referring to the Bihar voter roll revision, Vijayendra said that over 35 lakh voters had migrated, and 8–9 lakh deceased names were still on the rolls. “Updating the list is not new. It’s just that the Congress is sensing defeat and reacting in desperation,” he remarked.

The press conference was attended by BJP General Secretary P. Rajeev, Yuva Morcha State President and MLA Dheeraj Muniraju, and other party leaders.
